Coming Soon...

Just for kicks, I thought I might do a brief mid-week update, based on new and soon-to-be releases I'm looking forward to (in no particular order):

My Inspiration

It was a Sunday night, and I was struck by the desire to watch a chick-flick via a friends' Netflix account. I’m the kind of girl who grew up loving chick flicks, but as I’ve matured and embraced a feminist outlook, I’ve become far more critical of mainstream media. I read Jezebel and Feministing, typically giving more attention to the pop-culture posts. I’ve read Packaging Girlhood, Buying In, The Purity Myth, and all of the Gossip Girl books. I love shows like America’s Next Top Model and Project Runway, as well as Glee, Gossip Girl and, to a lesser extent, but I watch it anyway, Secret Life of the American Teenager. I’m interested in what teenagers watch, read and listen to, and pop culture in general.

This blog aims to examine the Beta-Friend found in main-stream Hollywood chick flicks.
